VSO is the world’s leading international development charity that works through volunteers to create a fair world for everyone. At VSO we pride ourselves on doing development differently. We fight poverty not by sending aid, but by working through volunteers and partners to create long-lasting change in some of the world’s poorest regions. In 2018/19, VSO supported over one million of the poorest and most excluded people in 23 countries across Africa and Asia.
Role overview
Social Accountability is an important and growing part of VSO’s programme portfolio. It is one of the three VSO core approaches in addition to resilience and social inclusion and gender. Together, these approaches contribute to a more transformational approach in VSO’s programming and are an integral part of the organization’s volunteering for development (VFD) Framework. For VSO, social accountability is a process of change that empowers poor and marginalized people to lead their own development by exercising voice, claiming rights and holding people in power to account. The main purpose for this role will be to support our Social Accountability work in-country. In this role, you will contribute by supporting our networks of social accountability staff, volunteers, partners and primary actors gain the capability to operate in the digital space. This is in response to the current C0VID I9 pandemic, which has impacted and reduced the scope of conventional social accountability work due to the restrictive measures put in place as a response to the pandemic. You will support in building the capacity of our staff, volunteers, partners and primary actors to implement social accountability work using digital/online means.
