WIZARA YA AFYA: New Corona Updates Tanzania | TRAVEL ADVISORY No.2 Released 04th April, 2020
On the 23rd March, 2020, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania instituted additional measures with a goal of limiting the spread of corona virus. Following directives of the Joint Meeting of the Ministers responsible for Health and East African Affairs of the East African Community (EAC) issued on the 25th March 2020 on COVID-19 Preparedness and Response, the Government has reviewed and updated the Travel Advisory to accommodate free movements of goods and services.
Recommended:
The updated measures are as follows:
All individuals currently residing in the United Republic of Tanzania are strongly advised to postpone all non-essential travel to other countries due to regional and global impact of the COVID-19. This is effective immediately, until further notice.
All travelers whether foreigners or returning residents entering the United Republic of Tanzania will be subjected to Mandatory Isolation for fourteen (14) days at their own cost at designated facilities identified by the Government.
Measures relating to trucks/vehicles carrying Goods and Services:
i. have only 2-3 crew Members per vehicle to facilitate smooth border crossing in the region;
ii. will be decontaminated if crew members are suspected to have COVID-19
iii. crew members have to declare their final destinations at the Points of Entry(PoE), and during their journey are allowed to only stop at Government designated locations.
iv. crew members will be subjected to enhanced screening at Points of Entry and may be quarantined or isolated at designated facilities in case they are suspected of COVID-19 infection.
v. in case crews are quarantined/Isolated while in transit, truck owners / operators must make necessary arrangements to back-up their crew to ensure that goods are delivered to the intended destination;
vi. crew for cargo planes and other vessels will be quarantined at designated hotels or within their vessels (in case of ship) for the period of their stay;
vii. Air Operators should maintain two sets of crews to work in rotation in order to minimize the chances of being subjected to Mandatory Quarantine.
Recommended:
All travelers will be subjected to intensive screening including rapid testing for COVID-19 if deemed necessary;
All travelers are reminded to truthfully fill in Traveler Surveillance Forms available onboard, or in any other transport means and submit them to Port Health Authorities upon arrival;
As initially pointed out, after the Fourteen Days Mandatory Quarantine, passengers with no symptoms of the COVID-19, will be allowed to leave the facilities immediately after registering their personal information for future follow up;

NB: The Travel Advisory will be reviewed from time to time as the need arises.
